Erinn Goes Abroad

    Instinct

9 times out of 10, if I were to respond to an attack with my fight-or-flight mechanism, it would likely lean in the flight direction. Such a route would yield the greatest likelihood of self-preservation.

HOWEVER, there are those unpredictable instances where the spirit of ATL would envelop me and I would respond with fight… as I almost did last night when an oblivious (and harmless) dusk runner approached me from behind. Isn’t it thought to be impolite to stampede towards someone with her back facing you? Lucky for him and his jaw, I kept my kung-fu kick in tow. But it wasn’t without conscious restraint… and a fright of his own when I whipped around to face him. You’ve been warned, Wellingtonians! You can take the girl out of Atlanta but you can’t Atlanta out of the girl.

**Update: Is it clear that I was NOT attacked? Mother was confused. I’m fine. Runner meant no harm.

… Oh and here’s a shout out to Karan. You’re welcome.

PortraitOn August 15, 2009 I interviewed for and received a Rotary International Ambassadorial scholarship. Rotary International is sending me to study abroad in New Zealand for an academic year and there I will act as a goodwill ambassador on behalf of Rotary and the USA. I am so thrilled to have this opportunity and will use this blog to share my before-during-and after experiences.
