Erinn Goes Abroad

  1. Text

    What could be better?

What could be better than climbing into a camper van and setting out on a journey with two of your most admirable friends? What could be more humbling than gazing up at a million year old glacier? On the south island, snow capped mountains tower like giants and shades of green endlessly mystify.

The raging rivers, the lazy sheep, the place where the cliffs kiss the clouds, all if these things are beautiful alone but sweeter shared with loved ones. I don’t know why. Maybe when separate awes meet, they multiply. Exponentially!

We were laughing earlier, as you do on long car rides, about the bountiful beauty around us. What could be better?

Someone quite clever once told me,

“A sunset is beautiful on it’s own but much more when shared.”

I’ve never had a better sense of those words.

PortraitOn August 15, 2009 I interviewed for and received a Rotary International Ambassadorial scholarship. Rotary International is sending me to study abroad in New Zealand for an academic year and there I will act as a goodwill ambassador on behalf of Rotary and the USA. I am so thrilled to have this opportunity and will use this blog to share my before-during-and after experiences.
